Brazil’s Data Protection Authority marks five years with expanded mandate and strengthened regulatory capacity

The Brazilian National Data Protection Authority celebrated its fifth anniversary with the release of an institutional report highlighting its consolidation as a key regulatory body for data governance in the country. The report underscores advances in regulatory output, responsive supervision, international cooperation and the promotion of a data protection culture. Notable achievements include the expansion of staff, the publication of regulatory instruments and guidance documents, and the improvement of technical and administrative mechanisms aimed at transparency and citizen engagement. Brazil’s Data Protection Agency publishes final results of selective hiring process to expand operational capacity

The Brazilian National Data Protection Agency has published Notice No. 4 of the Simplified Selective Process – PSS 1/2025, formally releasing the final results and confirming the candidates approved for the 213 available positions, as well as those placed on the reserve list. The PSS is a federal mechanism used for temporary public-interest hiring and is part of the Agency’s strategy to strengthen its institutional capacity in regulation, enforcement and promotion of a data protection culture, particularly following its transition to a regulatory agency and its new responsibilities under the Digital ECA framework. Paraíba enacts ban on facial and biometric recognition for individuals with autism, ADHD, Down syndrome and dyslexia

The State of Paraíba has enacted Law No. 14.033, which prohibits the use of facial recognition and biometric enrollment to identify individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Down syndrome, or dyslexia in both public and private establishments. Published in the State Official Gazette on 17 October 2025, the law bars the application of such technologies for identification or authentication purposes for these groups, requiring that the condition be demonstrated through a medical report or official identification card presented by a responsible guardian. Nvidia and Uber unveil plan to build a 100,000-vehicle autonomous robotaxi network

Nvidia and Uber announced a partnership to deploy a network of up to 100,000 fully autonomous robotaxis, with initial rollout expected in 2027. According to Nvidia, the initiative will rely on the Drive AGX Hyperion 10 platform, a reference architecture designed to support level-4 automation, enabling vehicles to operate without human intervention within predefined geographical areas. Although ambitious, the companies have not committed to a timeline for reaching full scale, a target that far exceeds the current fleet sizes of competitors such as Waymo, which operates approximately 2,000 robotaxis. Brazil’s Superior Court upholds legality of police virtual tracking in child-pornography investigations

The Sixth Panel of the Superior Court of Justice upheld the legality of the virtual patrol employed by law-enforcement agencies to detect child-pornography files shared on peer-to-peer (P2P) networks. The panel unanimously endorsed the opinion of Justice Rogério Schietti Cruz, who noted that monitoring files made available in a virtually public environment does not constitute an intrusion into private space or an interception of communications, and therefore does not require a prior judicial warrant. He emphasized that users voluntarily expose their IP addresses when sharing files, which eliminates any reasonable expectation of confidentiality. Learn more.
