Brazil’s Federal Senate, through its Committee on Science, Technology, Innovation, and Information Technology, has approved Bill No. 3,563/2024, introduced by Senator Randolfe Rodrigues and reported by Senator Damares Alves. The proposal would prohibit advertising, sponsorship, and promotional activities related to sports betting and online gaming throughout the country.

The bill amends the current Sports Betting Law and also seeks to bar wagering practices tied to electoral outcomes, including elections, plebiscites, and referendums. The stated objective is to strengthen regulatory oversight of the sector and significantly reduce the visibility of betting platforms across media outlets and sporting events.

Following committee approval, the bill will now be reviewed by the Senate’s Constitution and Justice Committee as a preliminary step before any potential floor vote. If ultimately approved by Congress and signed into law, the measure could substantially curtail both commercial communications and financial sponsorships by betting operators in Brazil, signaling a more interventionist legislative approach to the regulation and promotion of this market.
