On May 27, during the 2nd Extraordinary Session of the National Council of Justice (CNJ), Minister Luís Roberto Barroso announced the relaunch of the National Precedents Database (BNP) with enhanced features. Now called BNP/Pangea, the platform was developed under the Justice 4.0 Program in partnership with the Regional Labor Court of the 4th Region (TRT-4). Publicly accessible, it serves as a key tool for judges, court staff, lawyers, and researchers to access standardized and qualified legal precedents.

The updated BNP offers a more user-friendly search interface and now includes data from Brazil’s top courts — the STF, STJ, and TST. The system promotes the consistent application of case law by enabling fast access to relevant decisions, thus contributing to greater predictability and legal certainty. Currently, 60 judicial bodies are integrated into the platform, which has recorded over 8,000 precedents, with a significant share coming from the superior courts.

The platform aligns with Article 927 of the Civil Procedure Code, which mandates adherence to binding precedents from higher courts. These decisions now account for over 37% of the BNP’s content. Minister Barroso emphasized the need for all courts to participate in the upcoming technical meeting on June 10, as full integration is essential for the new services to function effectively within the judiciary.
