The new law No. 14,559/2025 has been enacted, increasing penalties for psychological violence against women when committed using artificial intelligence or technologies that alter a victim’s image or voice. The sentence, ranging from six months to two years in prison, can now be increased by 50%, strengthening the government’s commitment to fighting online misogyny and protecting women’s rights. In 2024, over 100,000 reports of psychological violence were filed through the national hotline, underscoring the seriousness of this issue in today’s society.
Beyond expanding the law, the regulation aims to better define and intensify the fight against psychological violence, including online humiliation, threats, and manipulation. Recent data show that women are far more likely to experience digital harassment, especially in online spaces that promote female dehumanization. This legislation marks an important step toward ethical regulation of AI and safeguarding women’s dignity, making the battle against digital violence a national priority.
