The Legislative Assembly of Goiás unanimously approved a supplementary bill regulating the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the state. The proposal, authored by the state government and Representative Bia de Lima (PT), establishes the State Policy for Innovation and AI Development. Its goals include promoting sustainable technological advancement, research, technical training, and improving public services. The law allows the private sector to use AI systems for lawful purposes and authorizes the government to apply AI to reduce bureaucracy and enhance public service efficiency and accessibility.
The initiative encourages the use of open-source AI to attract researchers, developers, and innovative companies to Goiás. It also creates the Ethics and Innovation in Artificial Intelligence Center (NEI-I), which will be responsible for drafting ethical guidelines and best practices for responsible AI use by the state. Recognized as one of the most comprehensive AI regulations in Brazil, the bill positions Goiás as a national leader in technological governance and now awaits the governor’s approval.
