On September 3, 2025, Disney agreed to pay BRL 54.7 million in a settlement with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC). The regulator accused the company of violating the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Rule (COPPA) by failing to properly label certain YouTube videos as “made for kids.” According to the FTC, this omission resulted in the unlawful collection of children’s personal data and exposed minors to features considered inappropriate for their age group.

The complaint named Disney Worldwide Services and Disney Entertainment Operations as responsible for the non-compliance. The FTC’s order requires the implementation of a mandatory video review program aimed at strengthening child privacy safeguards online. A Disney spokesperson stressed that the agreement does not cover the company’s proprietary platforms, only content published on YouTube, and reaffirmed Disney’s longstanding commitment to upholding the highest standards of child privacy compliance.
