On August 28, 2025, Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) decided to expand its investigation into alleged abuse of dominant position by Google in the online search and news markets. The inquiry, initiated in 2019, examines claims that Google Search and Google News improperly use journalistic content, reducing publishers’ organic traffic and undermining their financial sustainability.

On the same date, Commissioner Diogo Thomson invited civil society to submit technical and factual contributions voluntarily and without procedural cost. Submissions may be filed until September 29, 2025, through CADE’s Electronic Information System (SEI/Cade), addressing issues such as the effects of algorithms and artificial intelligence, news content remuneration, and the interaction between search services and digital advertising.
