The Brazilian federal government has established a task force to oversee the implementation of the country’s National Artificial Intelligence Plan (PBIA), with a projected investment of R$ 23 billion (approx. US$ 4.5 billion) over four years. Published in the Official Gazette, the resolution brings together 15 key institutions—including the Ministries of Science and Technology (which leads the initiative), Education, Finance, and others—with the goal of turning Brazil into a global benchmark in AI innovation and public sector efficiency.
The PBIA aims to build cutting-edge digital infrastructure across multiple sectors—health, education, environment, and commerce—while promoting the development of high-performance AI processors within Brazil. One major milestone will be the upgrade of the National Scientific Computing Laboratory’s supercomputer, set to become one of the five most powerful in the world, powered by renewable energy. The task force will also engage researchers and civil society experts, forming interdisciplinary advisory groups to support decision-making. This initiative marks a critical move toward embedding AI in Brazil’s broader digital transformation strategy.
