Brazil’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MCTI) has released the final version of the Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Plan (PBIA), a strategic document that will guide the ethical, secure, and sustainable development of AI in the country. Backed by investments of up to R$ 23 billion over the next four years, the plan outlines interministerial actions aimed at positioning Brazil as a global leader in artificial intelligence. Among its flagship goals is the acquisition of one of the world’s top five supercomputers, enhancing national capabilities in data processing and advanced AI research.

The PBIA is the result of a broad collaborative process involving government, academia, and industry. It emphasizes the creation of homegrown solutions that reflect Brazil’s social, cultural, and economic realities. Key directives include promoting research, training talent, fostering innovation, and establishing regulatory frameworks that ensure data protection and algorithmic transparency. The plan also highlights the strategic application of AI in public services to improve service delivery and evidence-based policymaking. This initiative underscores Brazil’s commitment to a sovereign, inclusive, and development-oriented AI agenda. Learn more.
