On October 14, 2025, the Brazilian National Data Protection Agency (ANPD) published the fifth edition of its Radar Tecnológico series, dedicated to the topic of age-assurance mechanisms in digital environments. Prepared by the Agency’s General Coordination for Technology and Research (CGTP), the study provides a comprehensive overview of document-based, biometric, and cryptographic approaches for verifying or estimating users’ ages. It examines the implications of these technologies for privacy and personal data protection of children and adolescents, in accordance with the General Data Protection Law (LGPD) and the Digital Child and Adolescent Statute (Law No. 15,211/2025).

The report also reviews international experiences and regulatory trends that seek to align technical effectiveness with data minimization and proportionality. It underscores the importance of developing robust and transparent mechanisms that uphold fundamental rights.
