Justice Alexandre de Moraes of Brazil’s Supreme Federal Court (STF) has granted a preliminary injunction in Claim of Noncompliance with a Fundamental Precept (ADPF) No. 1296, suspending specific provisions of São Paulo Municipal Law No. 18,349/2025 and Decree No. 64,811/2025. State Judicial Authorities Restrict the Use of Blockchain Tokens in Real Estate Records
The Courts of Justice Inspectorates of São Paulo, Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Mato Grosso do Sul, and Espírito Santo have issued regulations prohibiting real estate registry offices from linking official property records to digital tokens recorded on blockchain networks. In São Paulo, Official Order (Provimento) No. 54/2025 expressly forbids registry officers from making any entries, annotations, or registrations that connect ownership of real property to digital representations. Brazil’s Ministry of Justice and Public Security has released a report compiling 70 submissions received during a public consultation on online age-verification mechanisms. STJ Reaffirms Prohibition of Prior Restraint and Lifts Restrictions Imposed on Journalist
The Vice President of Brazil’s Superior Court of Justice (STJ), Justice Luis Felipe Salomão, acting as Chief Justice, has suspended a preliminary injunction that barred a journalist from publishing news reports concerning a federal congresswoman. The lower court’s order had also required the removal of previously published content and the suspension of the journalist’s social media accounts for at least 90 days, under penalty of a BRL 10,000 fine and the possibility of pretrial detention in the event of noncompliance. Group Defies U.S. Court Order and Releases Tracks Allegedly Obtained from Spotify Breach
Anna’s Archive, a group known for advocating large-scale digital piracy, has begun distributing approximately 2.8 million music tracks through torrent files, reportedly sourced from a breach of Spotify’s systems last year. The move comes despite a U.S. court order expressly prohibiting the hosting and dissemination of the material, issued in litigation brought by Spotify and major record labels alleging widespread copyright infringement. Brazil’s Supreme Court Schedules Review of Increased ICMS Rates on Telecommunications Services
Brazil’s Federal Supreme Court (STF) has scheduled for Thursday, the 12th, the hearing of Direct Action of Unconstitutionality (ADI) No. 7077, which challenges the application of higher ICMS rates to telecommunications services in the State of Rio de Janeiro. During the same session, the Court is also expected to examine ADI No. 7716, concerning a similar increase in the State of Paraíba.
