Brazil’s Ministry of Sports has joined the Interministerial Working Group on Electronic Games, coordinated by the Ministry of Culture, to advance the regulation of Law No. 14,852/2024, which established the Legal Framework for the Electronic Games Industry in Brazil. The working group brings together multiple ministries, public authorities, and industry representatives to develop proposals aimed at strengthening the games sector as a strategic component of culture, audiovisual production, the creative economy, and sports. Upon completion of its activities, the group will submit a report to the Minister of Culture, Margareth Menezes, outlining recommendations for implementing the statute and fostering the sector’s sustainable growth.
According to Giovanni Rocco, National Secretary for Sports Betting and Economic Development in Sports, the Ministry’s participation reinforces the policy objective of recognizing e-sports as a tool for social inclusion, youth development, and athlete protection. The Ministry has also conducted a nationwide mapping of public policies in the field and entered into an agreement to provide 10,000 free scholarships for online courses in gaming and e-sports. The initiative targets individuals aged 15 to 29, with priority given to students in the public education system, as part of broader efforts to expand opportunities and support the industry’s development.
