The federal government has opened a public consultation, running until August 22, to establish the Data Governance and Sharing Policy. The proposal aims to promote the strategic use of data in public policy development and service delivery, introducing the role of Data Executive (Chief Data Officer) in federal agencies without creating new positions. This professional will oversee strategic data management, working alongside data curators, IT managers, and data protection officers to ensure quality, security, and compliance with the General Data Protection Law (LGPD).
The draft decree also sets guidelines for interoperability and data sharing, replacing the rules of Decree No. 10,046/2019, and reinforcing the mandatory use of reference records formalized by the Central Data Governance Committee. It mandates the use of the government cloud for sensitive data and aligns data-sharing practices with states and municipalities. The initiative seeks to enhance efficiency, transparency, and personalization of public services, avoiding duplicate data submissions by citizens and strengthening public trust.
