U.S. President Donald Trump warned that the launch of the DeepSeek AI, developed by a Chinese startup, should serve as a wake-up call for American tech companies. The new artificial intelligence quickly gained traction in the market, reaching the top of Apple’s App Store and sparking concerns within the sector. The main worry is the low cost of developing DeepSeek, which presents a threat to U.S. leadership in AI, as it has proven competitive in tests against Meta and OpenAI models.

Despite the concerns, Trump stated that he views the low-cost technology as a positive development, as it could offer more accessible AI solutions without the high expenses currently required by the industry. This advancement comes amid a series of Chinese apps gaining popularity in the U.S., raising security and privacy questions. While Trump has undone certain restrictions on AI development, it’s unclear how the government or Congress will respond to DeepSeek’s rise. Some members of Congress, such as Representative John Moolenaar, have suggested more assertive actions to curb the growth of Chinese technology.
